:: Thomas

Thomas EK has been passionate about Zouk since 2018 and joined the DBAC team in 2019 under Alex de Carvalho’s guidance. Over the years, he’s worked with some amazing instructors like Virginie Manis, Patrycja Jakimczyk, Sabrina Beija Flor, and Laure Lalanne. Known for his urban influences, musicality, and smooth style, Thomas brings something truly unique to the dance floor. He’s also a certified MAC instructor and took home 1st place in the Intermediate Jack & Jill category in 2022. He’s competed across Europe and co-organizes the Dance-Me event with Alex de Carvalho.

:: Alexia

Alexia Matos, born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, started her dance journey with Brazilian ballroom dances at Jaime Aroxa’s school before falling in love with Zouk in 2017, first learning at Renata Peçanha ‘s school and later at DBAC. She was drawn to Zouk’s freedom of expression and deep connection, which led her to become a MAC-certified instructor in 2023. Alexia also co-founded Zouk BX in Brussels and, under her DJ name DJ Lexa, she blends her passion for both dance and music.

In July 2024, Thomas and Alexia formed their partnership. They taught together at Bleu Blanc Zouk 2024 and took 3rd place in the Intermediate JnJ in Hendaye in August 2024. They’ve also been part of the Zouk Unity teaching team since September 2024 and have been leading an accelerated Brazilian Zouk module since November 2024.

will & myriam

france

:: Myriam

Originally from Lyon, Myriam began her journey in sports, dedicating many years to gymnastics.

This discipline allowed her to develop remarkable agility, flexibility, and ease of movement— qualities that later became invaluable to her true passions: dance and sports.

Myriam became a fitness coach and simultaneously joined a dance troupe, performing regularly on stage for various events. In 2014, she began training in social dances, particularly kizomba, and eventually became an instructor in this style. In 2017, she discovered Brazilian zouk and fell completely in love with the dance, which quickly became her calling.

In 2018, Myriam began intensive training with Alex de Carvalho as part of the MAC program, obtaining her MAC Instructor certification. Since then, she has been teaching Brazilian zouk and lambada in Lyon, across France, and throughout Europe, with a strong desire to expand the reach of these dances wherever possible.

:: Will

The son of a salsa dancer, Will was born in Lyon, France, where he quickly developed a passion for dance and sports. From an early age, he danced as an amateur, honing his skills as a self-taught dancer. Inspired by hip-hop and the legendary Michael Jackson, he began performing during his teenage years, recreating the iconic choreography of the King of Pop while adding his own personal style.

Will later refined his craft by taking dance classes with teachers specializing in hip-hop and afro influences. His curiosity and love for dance led him to explore social couple dances such as kizomba and bachata. In 2018, he discovered Brazilian zouk—a true revelation—when he joined the first module of the MAC training program led by Alex de Carvalho. Alex became his mentor and a major inspiration throughout his journey in Brazilian zouk.

After earning his MAC Instructor certification, Will joined the DBAC team under Alex de Carvalho and began teaching in 2019 in Lyon, as well as throughout France and Europe at Brazilian zouk and lambada events. Driven by an unwavering passion, he continues to learn and share this dance with as many people as possible.

:: Will and Myriam

From the very beginning of their partnership, Will and Myriam decided to teach together. Their duo, fueled by a shared passion for Brazilian zouk, has flourished over the years. Today, they are more determined than ever to spread the joy of this dance by sharing their passion and expertise with students locally and internationally.

sébastien & josiane

canada

:: Josiane:
Dancing has always been an important part of Josiane’s life. Indeed, Josiane started dancing around 5 years old, and her curiosity brought her to explore different dance styles through the years (from classical ballet to ballet jazz, hip hop, ballroom, salsa and baladi). She also quickly discovered the joys of teaching and dancing on stage with the younger dancers at her school.

The long working hours of her first years on the labor market after university forced her to stop completely dancing for a few years… but it’s also at work that she renewed her interest for this art and was able to join a dance troupe with business/professional women (thank you dear Muses!).

And since life has a way of giving you what you need when you need it, Josiane discovered Brazilian zouk in December 2017 during a class with her dance troupe. And she instantly fell in love with it! Since then, Josiane continues to seize every opportunity she has to learn, practice, dance and share this wonderful dance! Beyond the pleasure of dancing itself, Brazilian zouk teaches her a lot about herself, allowing her to thrive!

:: Sébastien:

Sportive by nature, Sébastien has always managed to hide his interest in arts. It’s only when he arrived in Montreal in 2012, after his graduate studies, while he was leisurely walking on Ste-Catherine street, that his innate curiosity pushed him to enter the world of dance. And not any dance: Brazilian zouk! This is proof that there is no age to start dancing!

It’s this same curiosity that pushed him to seize every opportunity to perfect his dance and outpass his own limits. He quickly discovered an interest for a more urban style (R&B) which you’ll likely recognize fairly quickly on the dance floor!

In 2015, the scientific pedagogue in him couldn’t resist teaching again. Sébastien quickly became known for his clear and precise explanations and his rigorous and detailed observation skills. His passion for teaching is still very alive! This is why Sébastien happily accepts the challenges ahead to deepen his learning and share his knowledge amongst the community!

mateusz & klaudia

poland

Mateusz and Klaudia have been teaching regular Brazilian Zouk classes in Warsaw since 2023. Their teaching journey has also taken them abroad, with workshops conducted in places like Hanover and Mallorca.

For several years, they have been continuously developing their dance skills by attending numerous events across Poland and Europe, learning from some of the best instructors from Brazil and beyond. In 2020, they began training in Lambada, the dance style from which Brazilian Zouk evolved. This has given them a strong foundation in understanding Zouk’s technique and structure, which they incorporate into their teaching. Between 2021 and 2023, they trained with Renato Veronezi as part of the Warsaw Zouk Company, where they also gained experience with Urban Zouk. With the group, they performed at festivals in cities such as Warsaw, Amsterdam, Brno, and London. In 2024, Mateusz and Klaudia became MAC (Alex de Carvalho’s Methodology) certified instructors of Brazilian Zouk.

Their teaching approach emphasizes technique, creative use of basics, musicality, and styling. Their classes are known for helping leaders develop a smooth and enjoyable lead, which allows followers to fully enjoy their dance experience and express themselves in the music.
